About Brierley Hill Civic

Building a vibrant community facility

Brierley Hill Civic Hall has been host to artists, performers and theatre production since the 1960s and is in the heart of our community. In recent years, its usage had dropped while costs have remained or risen. The Hall was often closed during the day and it was not operating at its full potential as a hive for all sorts of activity.

Rejuvenating the Civic

In February 2015, Dudley Council entrusted Dudley CVS with rejuvenating Brierley Hill Civic Hall on an 18-month trial. This is part of Duduley MBC's move to become a 'community council', a council that enables and supports communites to do things for themselves rather than being a body that does things to or for people and communities.

During the trialIn the first two months of the trial, Dudley CVS:

  • built relationships with existing users, schools, colleges, voluntary organisations, promoters, artists, businesses and entertainers.
  • welcomed and engaged anyone who wanted to make great things happen at the Civic. In March 2016, Dudley CVS threw open the doors of the Civic. People who had never been before toured the space, sharing their ideas and inspiration, while past users shared their experiences. Around 60 people joined Dudley CVS to share their inspiration. The report (written and visual) can be viewed at
  • shared and held open conversations with the media, residents, colleges, businesses and promotoers. Conversations have been shared more then 200 times online.
Dudley CVS is looking forward to building upon this, to encourage local talent to use the Civic Hall as a showcase for their skills and ensure that the Civic reflects local heritage and is a vibrant community hub for everyone.

Created by award-winning comedian and theatre director Janice Connolly, Barbara Nice is the overenthusiastic housewife alter-ego of Birmingham-based performer Janice, who previously appeared in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, and is well known on the circuit for her lively, upbeat presence.

She's the Stockport housewife, cleaner to the stars and keen ‘Take a Break’ reader, who has been delighting live comedy audiences for 25 years with her unbridled enthusiasm. She gave up the domestic bliss of tupperware and Pound Stretcher shops for the unpredictability of the comedy world, but no audience is too rowdy for her to handle.

Barbara performs playful, life-affirming shows for all the family. With the affectionate attitude of a playgroup leader at a wild Iggy Pop concert, she is guaranteed to warm the heart of any audience. She has been compared to Victoria Wood, Mrs. Merton, and Julie Walters.

Barbara reached the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent in 2019, narrowly missing out on a place in the final by just a few votes.

"Good old-fashioned hearty humour that everyone can relate to. Musical statues, stage dives, sing-a-longs – this is a show with something for everyone.. this cheeky chirpy Stockport housewife wants everyone to have a good time.. a riotous raucous hour of all-inclusive fun. If you like fun, and you like laughter, and your soul needs a bit of a boost, Mrs Barbara Nice will not disappoint" ★★★★ London Is Funny

Roy Chubby Brown - info regarding your visit to Brierley Hill Civic

Dear Sir / Madam, we are really looking forward to welcoming you tomorrow night to see the Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown show Live at the Civic.

We want to make your visit as smooth and as safe as possible so please take time to read all of the information below to ensure that that is the case.

COVID rates in the area are on the increase so although not mandatory we advise that you wear a mask when moving around the venue. We have numerous hand sanitising stations and again we advise that you use them often as well as washing your hands for at least 20 seconds on any visit to the toilets.

The show starts promptly at 7.30pm but the doors open at 6.30pm so we ask that you arrive plenty of time to pass through security and if required get refreshments from the bar. Late comers will have to wait in the foyer until there is a suitable break in the performance and this could be the interval so we again stress early arrival.

The security team will be confiscating any liquids that are attempted to be brought into the venue, so please don’t attempt to do so. If you require water for medicinal purposes then this can be provided free of charge from the main bar.

To try and expedite the process of getting you into the venue we will have 3 entrance points open. If you have seats on the balcony please enter via the front doors. If you have seating in the stalls then please enter at either the ‘Bank Street’ wheel chair accessible side entrance or through the front doors, whichever has the smaller queue.

To make things easier for all involved please ensure that you have either printed your tickets to show on arrival or have them downloaded ready to show on your phone. To download your tickets please click - Once logged in you will see your orders and can then ‘print’ (pressing this will enable the download to a smart device) your tickets.

Please ensure that you have the correct dated tickets printed or downloaded. Due to COVID this show has been rescheduled several times and we must have the correct dated tickets to allow entry.

Once you are in the venue please take your seats unless you require refreshments. Again to try to make things smoother for you we will be opening the main bar (Cash & card accepted) a bar to the left of the stage in the auditorium (cash and card but no draft drinks) and 2 other cash only temporary bars on the balcony landing platforms. The producers of the show have instructed us to decant all drinks into plastic glasses so no bottles will be allowed.

Whichever bar you are using once served we again request that you please take your seats to reduce congestion throughout the venue and allow others to get served in a timely fashion.

The smoking area for the show will be outside the front doors. For your safety please keep out of the access road that the Police use for emergencies. We ask that you have a Cigarette / Vape prior to your entrance into the venue. If you do leave for a cigarette / Vape before the show commences then you will be required to join the back of the queue and once again go through security checks to regain entrance.

The producers of the show have also asked us to relay to you that there is to be absolutely no recording / streaming of the show is permitted and that anyone who attempts to do so will be ejected from the venue.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this email and we hope you enjoy the show!

**This Saturday Night - We Welcome T.Rextasy!

Sweeney Entertainments proudly present -T.REXTASY - The Greatest Hits Tour

Marc Bolan, with his band T.Rex, was one of the most flamboyant and charismatic stars of the original glam rock era. With Bolan's special ingredient of Rock-a-Boogie songs, the band had a string of huge hits throughout the 1970s including Love to Boogie, Telegram Sam, Jeepster and 20th Century Boy.

T.Rextasy have now been performing around the world for over 25 years, a career that ironically out lives Marc’s very own T.Rex. The band is now accepted as the world’s only official live tribute band dedicated to Marc Bolan & T.Rex, and the only band endorsed and approved by Marc Bolan’s family, estate, original ex-members of T.Rex, and Bolan’s catalogue management. The band has been described by many as ‘beyond the boundaries of tribute’.

Truly a rock’n’roll concert for all ages - If you would like to know exactly what a Marc Bolan concert was like in the 1970s, this show is for you!
